Beyond Pizza – 9 Other Things To Make With Pizza Dough

Mediterranean FoldoverWe love pizza night.  You might even say it’s our favorite night of the week.  But there are so many other delicious things to do with a beautiful ball of pizza dough that we couldn’t resist sharing some of our favorites.

1.  Speedy Dessert
Top the pizza dough with sweetened cream cheese, then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, and maybe even a few apple slices.  Bake, slice and eat. Talk about easy!

2. Warm Rolls
The simplest way to take dinner up a few notches. Great with a bowl of soup.  Perfect with a salad.  And delicious turned into a cheese and arugula sandwich.

3. Breakfast Calzone
Even better than a breakfast burrito.  Fill with scrambled eggs and your favorite veggies and bake.  The perfect weekend breakfast.

4.  Stove-Top Calzone
Faster and more fun than an oven calzone.  Just flatten the dough and cook like a flatbread on a very hot (almost smoking skillet), until golden on both sides, then drizzle with olive oil and fill with your favorite cheese and veggies.  This Mediterranean Calzone above is one of our favorites, and on this week’s menu (here). Truly delicious.

5.  Focaccia Bread
Talk about versatile!  Just pat the dough into a cake pan, drizzle with plenty of olive oil and sprinkle rosemary, thyme and salt over the top.  Bake until it puffs, and you have a treat ready to eat.

6.  Hot Appetizer
Starting the meal with a first course is just plain fun.  It seems like everyone slows down and enjoys the meal just a little bit more.   Make a pizza an appetizer by keeping the toppings super simple.  A little good cheese and olive oil is all you need.

7.  Dipping Bread
An even simpler appetizer.  Shape the dough into a rectangle and bake until it puffs.  Let everyone tear off their pieces and serve with olive oil.  It couldn’t be easier.

8. Roll Ups
Classic pizza flavors served up a whole new way.  Spread the dough into  rectangle and top with your favorite marinara, cheese and veggies.  Roll it up like a jelly roll and chill for 30 minutes, then slice into 1” rounds and bake.  Yum!

9. Stuffed Bread
An Italian classic.  Roll the dough into a rectangle and fill the center with spinach and feta, then and arrange the edges of the bread over top.  If you have an artistic side, you can even cut the edges into strips and braid over the top.  It adds an extra pizzazz.
