9 Ideas for a Fresh Take on Valentine’s Day

Kids love Valentine’s Day.  Whether it’s the candy hearts or excuse to wear red from head to toe, it’s a holiday as much for the little ones as it is for grown ups.  This week we’re sharing some of our favorite ideas for kid-friendly Valentine’s Day celebrations this weekend.

1) Make Cupid Kabobs
Cut grape tomatoes diagonally, then trim small pieces of cheese for the arrow parts. Add a toothpick, and you’ve got a healthy and swoon-worthy start to the night.  (We spotted this gem in Family Fun.)

2) Deck Out Your House
Decorate your house in red, white, and pink with streamers and heart-shaped place mats made from construction paper.

3) Heart-Shaped Soup & Sandwich
Try cutting fun heart shapes in a sandwich (like our Crazy Delicious Grilled Peanut Butter sandwich) and pair it with a favorite soup.  It’ll make the meal more special

4) Make Some Extra Valentines
Have your family drop them off at the neighbors or leave one out for your mail carrier. They’ll be tickled, we promise.

5) Cupid Plate
Make any meal special with a heart-shaped arrangement.  The trick is to use a shallow bowl to help maintain the shape of the heart.

6) Heart-Shaped PB&J
As easy as can be.  Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut a window through the top piece of bread to add a Valentine’s twist to a PB&J.

7) Have Fun With  Cheese & Crackers
Put your cookie cutter to work!  Cut out heart-shaped cheese and make an afternoon snack or pre-dinner appetizer more fun.  (Photo from the nourishingminimalist.com)

8) Bake Valentine’s Pizza
This trick from Betty Crocker: make a heart shaped pizza by starting with 2 balls of pizza dough, then rolling into a heart shape.  Everyone can help, and make the meal more fun.  (If you’re starting with our Pesto & Potato Pizza, cut your ball of dough into two pieces, roll into balls and then create the heart shape.

9) Say I Love You
Go around the table and have everyone share five reasons they love each member of the family. You’ll be surprised by what pops out!
